Hurdles To Voting
For The Handicapped
To the Editor:
I would like to lodge a complaint about the treatment for the elderly and the handicapped while trying to vote in an election or on the budget.
The last voting for the budget was held at the Middle School, and I found that the circle in front of the gym was blocked off, thus making it extremely hard for people to come to vote. There are only two handicap parking spaces on the side of the building. The entrance near them was blocked off. Being handicapped I had to walk that extra bit. It does not seem to like a lot but in the heat and with a cane it was not easy for me or for others like myself.
After voting I tried to exit using the door on the side of the gym nearest the handicap parking but was told that I could not that it was against the law. I thought that the law stated that no exit should be blocked.
This may seem like a small complaint to some but to those that are physically challenged or elderly need to have the closest entrance and exit. Maybe the next time for voting this can be corrected.
Sincerely yours,
Marion E. Mead
