Rear Ended On Mt Pleasant

Newtown Police report Cruz Gonzalez, 44, of Enfield, operating a Ford F250, was traveling east on Mt Pleasant Road at 5:43 pm May 15. He was traveling behind a 2021 Ford Ranger operated by David Ochs, 42, of Hopewell Junction, NY. Ochs stopped and was waiting for traffic to clear to turn into a driveway, and Gonzalez did not stop in time, rear ending Ochs' vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Gonzalez was issued an infraction for a charge that was not identified in the report.

Dog Hit By Car

Newtown Police report Maxwell Roberts, 24, of Newtown, operating a 2006 Subaru Impreza, was traveling on Cedar Hill Road at 5:06 pm May 26. Bruno, a pet dog of the Class family, entered the roadway and was struck. Michelle Class, owner of the dog, observed the incident and recognized the vehicle. The dog was transported by a family member to Newtown Animal Hospital. Police arrived and investigated, reporting that Roberts initially asked "if this was about the thing in the road" which he said he thought was a garbage bag, but later asked if he was at fault if a dog ran out into the roadway.

Roberts was issued an infraction for failure to report injury/death to a dog caused by a motor vehicle.

U-Turn Leads To Collision

Newtown Police report Melissa Hill, 39, of Newtown, operating a 2020 GMC Acadia, was attempting to perform a U turn at 199 South Main Street in front of the vehicle scale at 199 South Main Street on May 26. William Pendergast, 46, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, was parked behind Hill. While performing the U turn, Hill struck Pendergast's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Enforcement was not authorized.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Kevin Dykes, 20, of Bethel, operating a 2018 Honda Accord, was traveling northeast on Glover Avenue at 2:42 pm May 29. He was traveling behind a 2021 Lexus GX 460 operated by Alexandra Vogdes, 41, of Bethel. Vogdes stopped for a stop sign at the intersection with Queen Street. Dykes did not stop in time and rear ended Vogdes' vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Vogdes' vehicle was towed.

Dukes was issued an infraction for following too close.

Backed Into Vehicle

Newtown Police report Fnu Karankumar, 31, of Bellerose, NY, was backing up in the parking lot of Hilario's Towing at 6:05 pm May 30. An unoccupied Dodge Caravan owned by Gerda Magana of Shelton was parked along the building. Karankumar's vehicle struck Magana's vehicle rear to rear, pushing it several feet.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Rogue Hits Civic

Newtown Police report Stephany Da Barros, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Nissan Rogue, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 2:56 pm June 1. He was traveling behind a 2019 Honda Civic operated by Kristen Anzalone, 30, of Boston, Mass. Anzalone stopped in the eastbound lane waiting to turn into a parking lot. Da Barros rear ended Anzalone's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Da Barros was issued a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Struck Railroad Overpass

Newtown Police report Mia Troetti, 24, of Katonah, NY, was traveling westbound on Botsford Hill Road at 1:48 am June 2. While negotiating a righthand curve in the road, Troetti went off the road and struck the overpass railroad wall.

Troetti complained of pain in her left knee, but refused medical attention. The vehicle was towed.

Troetti was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Struck Deer

Newtown Police report Dawn Brown, 58, of Naugatuck, operating a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 6:13 pm June 2. A deer entered the roadway and was struck by Brown's vehicle before leaving the roadway.

Brown was not injured. Her vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Rear Ended On Berkshire Road

Newtown Police report Kerry Rodgers, 48, of Seymour, operating a 2012 Volvo S80, was traveling northbound on Berkshire Road at 8:47 am June 4. She was traveling behind a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse operated by Molly Daly, 34, of Sandy Hook. Daly stopped at the red light at the intersection with Wasserman way and Rodgers did not stop in time, rear-ending Daly's vehicle.

Daly reported head and neck pain but was not transported. Rodgers' vehicle was towed.

Rodgers was issued an infraction for following too close.

Avoided Animal, Hit Rock And Mailbox

Newtown Police report William Torres, 36, of New Haven, operating a 2018 Ford F350, was traveling northbound on Hanover Road at 8:51 am June 4. As Torres was negotiating a curve in the road, an animal entered the roadway and Torres attempted to swerve. The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and the undercarriage collided with a large rock, and then the vehicle struck a mailbox.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Torres was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Collision In Intersection

Newtown Police report Kevin Gatti, 61, of Avon, operating a 2018 Land Rover Discovery, was traveling northbound on Jordan Hill Road at 8:05 pm June 5. Nuno-Ricardo Saramago-Mendes, 30, of Danbury, operating a 2014 Hyundai Tucson, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road. Gatti stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Berkshire Road and then pulled into the intersection. Saramago-Mendes attempted to swerve to avoid Gatti but struck the rear left of the vehicle.

Minor injuries were reported with all occupants being examined by EMS but no transports were made. Both vehicles were towed.

Gatti received an infraction for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Trailer Hits Cars

Newtown Police report William Peterson, 76, of South Bristol, operating a 2021 Ford F150 pulling a trailer, was traveling in the parking lot of the Blue Colony Diner at 1:23 pm June 6. Kevin Corey, 72, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Subaru Impreza, was parked facing north in the lot. The trailer struck Corey's vehicle, pulling off the front bumper.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Sex Assault Of Minor Charges

Newtown Police arrested Gary Buzzanca, 65, of Newtown, on June 9, on the charges of eight counts of illegal sexual contact with a victim less than age 16, three counts of sex with a victim less than 13 but older than 2 years old, and six counts of third-degree sexual assault. He was held on a $300,000 bond with a court date of June 9 in Danbury Superior Court.

One Car Causes Three Other Car Collision

Newtown Police report Oliver Guzy, 16, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2010 Toyota Prius, was in the driveway of the C.H. Booth Library, attempting to make a left turn onto Main Street, at 3:17 pm June 9. Alexandra Dul, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2013 Cadillac CTS, was traveling northbound on Main Street. An unoccupied 2024 Genesis GV80 owned by Hyundai Lease Titlting Trust was parked on the northbound shoulder of Main Street. An unoccupied 2023 Lexus NX owned by Toyota Lease Trust was parked on the northbound shoulder of Main Street ahead of the Genesis.

When Guzy entered the roadway, Dul swerved right to avoid making contact with Guzy's vehicle and struck the Genesis. The Genesis was pushed forward into the Lexus.

Dul was treated on scene by EMS. Dul's vehicle was towed.

Guzy was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way at a private driveway.

Hit Guardrail

Newtown Police report Milton Rodriguez, 34, of Windsor, operating a 2005 Dodge Durango, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way at 6:56 pm June 9. Rodriguez lost control of the vehicle and hit a guardrail on the eastbound shoulder.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Rodriguez was issued a verbal warning for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Hit And Run Driver Sought

Newtown Police report that a 2022 Genesis BTS owned by Julian Teagarden on Southbury was parked legally and unoccupied on Clapboard Ridge Road along the westbound shoulder at 7:02 pm June 9. When the owner returned to his vehicle, he observed damage to the front end.

If identified, the operator who struck the vehicle will be charged with evading responsibility for property damage. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer John Facto at 203-426-5841.
