WSO To Perform Annual Summer Pops Concert, Twice

Waterbury Symphony Orchestra (WSO) will perform its 19th annual summer pops concert at 2 pm, on Saturday, July 7, at Woodbury’s Hollow Park, on Hollow Road, and again on Sunday, July 8, at 2 pm, in downtown Waterbury’s Library Park, which is adjacent to Silas Bronson Library at 267 Grand Street.

Concert-goers are invited to bring a picnic basket and blanket or chairs to the performances.

Entitled “Music of the Americas: From Sousa to Salsa,” the concert will feature music from across North and South America. The orchestra will perform Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever, the overture from Bernstein’s West Side Story, a medley of John Williams’ music from the Harry Potter films, as well as several Latin and salsa pieces.

Tickets for the Woodbury concert are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and $50 for a seat under the tent in front of the orchestra; general admission for those age 18 and under will be free. For tickets, call the WSO office at 203-574-4283 or visit one of the ticket outlets: Middlebury Pharmacy, Woodbury Drugstore, Koenig’s Art Emporium in Southbury, Canfield Corner Pharmacy, or Westbury Music Store in Watertown. Tickets are also available on the WSO website, WaterburySymphony.org.

The concert at Library Park is free.

WSO was founded in 1938. Music Director and Conductor Leif Bjaland has been with WSO for over 10 years. The orchestra performs concerts at Naugatuck Valley Community College and Palace Theater, both in Waterbury. For more information about WSO, visit the website or call the office.
