To the Editor:

Thanks to the hundreds of runners and the Newtown community for coming out on Saturday June 20th, 2015 in support of the Newtown Parks and Recreation’s 41st annual Rooster Run 5K. It was a great day for running and all of the participants make this a special family friendly event; what a tremendous way to kick off the summer season here in town. We aim to keep the tradition running strong on the Saturday prior to Father’s Day each year as this is Newtown’s ultimate family 5K race.

Thanks to Newtown Parks and Recreation, specifically Roseann Reggiano, Amy Mangold, Kevin Clark and their awesome staff for their help and support in organizing this great race.  Thanks to the all of the rangers that assisted with set up at the Newtown Municipal Center.  Thanks to the Fairfield Hills Authority.

All race proceeds benefit the Newtown Scholarship Fund. Special thanks to Sherri Baggett for her help and to Glenn Nanavaty, Margaret McCarthy, Tim McCarthy and the Newtown Scholarship committee members that volunteered their time at registration and at locations on the race course.  Thanks to all of the friends and family members that volunteered on race day.

The event could not happen without the generous support of our sponsors, please support them. They are: Bagel Delight (Thanks Eunice, you truly support our community) and Dunkin Donuts (Thanks Jeff for always helping Newtown) for all of the bagels and to Nestle Water Poland Spring for the all of the water. In addition, Caraluzzi’s generosity consistently supplements the post-race fare.  Thank you to our wonderful main sponsors: Western Connecticut Center for Neurofeedback and Counseling and Newtown Center Pediatrics.  Thanks also to our other terrific and generous sponsors: Blue Line Labradors, Church Hill Physical Therapy, Christine Fairchild Coldwell Banker, Holy Cow, Edward Jones, The Bee Publishing Company, Sugar Hill LLC, The Inn at Newtown, Toro Restaurant and Big Y.

Thank you to the Newtown Police Department for keeping everyone safe and the traffic running smoothly.

Thanks to Ken Platt and Platt Systems for a job well done timing the race.

Please continue to support the Newtown Road Race Series and plan on participating in the Newtown Road Race on Labor Day Saturday, The Newtown Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning and the Sandy Hook Run in March.

Come out and join us for the 42nd Rooster Run next June 2016.  Enjoy the summer months and good health to all.
