Newtown Cultural Arts Commission announces its annual grant competition for 2015.

The commission will award up to $1,000 to a Newtown artist and up to $1,000 to a Newtown arts organization. The grant application deadline is August 7.

The funds for the grants are from the proceeds of the two-day 2014 Newtown Arts Festival. This year’s festival will return to Fairfield Hills the weekend of September 19-20.

The winners of the 2015 grant will be invited to show or sell their art in the NCAC tent at the arts festival.

Now in its third year, the award has gone to a photographer, an artistic printer, a filmmaker, and a theater group, among others. The first year’s winner was Johnny Williams, a sculptural carpenter who went onto become a finalist in the Martha Stewart American Made Program.
