Opposition To Police Chief Proposal

To The Editor:

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the recent proposal by Chief of Police to require permits for parades and rallies with over 25 people in Newtown. While I understand the need for public safety, I believe that this proposal is an arbitrary restriction on our constitutional right to free speech and assembly.

The proposal's limitations on time and other aspects of demonstrations would severely restrict the ability of citizens to express their views and participate in democratic processes. As a resident of Newtown, I am concerned that this proposal would undermine the fundamental rights of our community members.

I urge the authorities to reconsider this proposal and engage in a more nuanced discussion about balancing public safety with individual freedoms. I believe that with careful planning and collaboration, we can ensure both the safety of our citizens and the protection of our constitutional rights.

Thank you for sharing my concerns with the community.
