Republicans No Longer The Party Of Personal Judgment
To the Editor:
The activist justices on our Supreme Court have demonstrated that they can no longer be believed in their sworn oaths. I’m afraid it will take decades to undo their misogynist judgment in Roe v. Wade.
Meanwhile, this decision on a person’s right to privacy sets a precedent that should now be applied to the men who were responsible for any pregnancy that now cannot be terminated.
In those cases, any man who denies paternal responsibility and whom the pregnant woman reasonably identifies as a possible father must be required to take a cheek swab so that a DNA test can determine paternity.
When the father is identified, he must be bound to provide equally (or more, if financially able) to the financial needs of the mother during her pregnancy and to the on-going support of the mother and her child for at least 18 years.
It is now clear that Republicans are no longer the party of personal judgment and reduced government interference. To me that disqualifies any avowed Republican for my vote.
Sincerely,
Gary E. Storms
Please take some time to educate yourself on this issue and the Supreme Court decision. It is now up to the individual states to determine how this issue will be decided.
So what you are saying is that men should not be responsible for their children? They can deny the child is theirs and there is no recourse by the mother of the child? Shouldn’t we be holding men responsible for helping raise their kids rather than leave women 100% financially responsible for the child?
Baby-daddy responsibility is a separate issue from the Dobbs v Jackson decision which pushed abortion policy back to the states.
