Serve The Public As Promised

To the Editor,

P & Z Vice Chair Roy Meadows might be commended for standing by his principles when he voted in favor of a wildly unpopular special exception for the Wharton warehouse application. But his oath to serve the P & Z Commission requires that he leave his political beliefs at home when called to perform his duty.

Nothing in the Commission manifest says that an “owner of a property has the right to develop it” takes precedence over the P & Z responsibility “to promote the orderly and coordinated development of the Town and the general welfare and prosperity of its residents.”

(“Planning & Zoning Commission is responsible to promote the orderly and coordinated development of the Town and the general welfare and prosperity of its residents,” says our town website.)

(Planning & Zoning Commission Vice Chair Roy Meadows “said he ‘agonized’ over the decision, but that an ‘owner of a property has the right to develop it,’” reports The Newtown Bee.)

Since Mr Meadows’ term of service runs through December of 2025, Newtown residents have an urgent need to know that he will familiarize himself with the responsibilities of his office in order to serve them as promised.
