Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Ladies Auxiliary recently honored Carol Lockwood for an extraordinary 61 years of dedicated service to the organization and the Sandy Hook community.

Lockwood joined the Auxiliary on July 1, 1965, and has remained an active and devoted member ever since. Throughout the decades, she has generously given her time, talents, and unwavering support to countless fundraising events, community activities, and Auxiliary initiatives. Lockwood continues to attend meetings and participate in events, demonstrating the same commitment and enthusiasm that have defined her service for more than six decades.

To many members, Lockwood is far more than a fellow volunteer. She is a mentor, role model, and mother figure whose kindness, wisdom, and friendship have touched generations of Auxiliary members. Her dedication has helped strengthen the organization and preserve its long-standing tradition of community service.

Lockwood’s commitment to volunteerism is part of a remarkable family legacy. Her late husband, George Lockwood Sr, was born and raised in Sandy Hook and dedicated his life to public service. He served as deputy fire marshal for the Town of Newtown for more than 20 years and was a member of Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company for 71 years, earning the distinction of Life Member.

During a special recognition ceremony attended by family, friends, and Auxiliary members, Lockwood was presented with a commemorative plaque honoring her years of service. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Chief Anthony Capozziello joined the celebration, with members of Lockwood’s family, to recognize her lasting contributions to the organization and community.

Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Ladies Auxiliary extends its heartfelt gratitude to Lockwood for her 61 years of service, leadership, friendship, and dedication. Her legacy continues to inspire current and future generations of volunteers.

For more than six decades, Lockwood has exemplified the spirit of volunteerism and community service that remains at the heart of Sandy Hook.
