Richard J. Cavanaugh, 53, of the Botsford section of Newtown, died June 25 at Danbury Hospital following a long illness.

Richard was predeceased by his father, James G. Cavanaugh, Jr, and his oldest brother, James G. Cavanaugh III.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy (Quinn) Cavanaugh of Botsford; his two older sisters, Susan C. Elmore of Londonderry, N.H., and Linda M. Cavanaugh of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and an older brother, Robert D. Cavanaugh of Pittsford, Vt.

A graduate from St Rose of Lima Grammar School in Newtown, Immaculate High School in Danbury, and Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla., his professional career spanned several decades as a sales manager in the hardware and pool markets in Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

Richard — a/k/a Rich, Richie, “The Kid” — was an avid sportsman and music lover. He enjoyed baseball and football, in particular, the Los Angeles and St Louis Rams. But his real love was the Rolling Stones. He was always on the hunt for tickets to the next concert, no matter where they were to play.

There will be no viewing or calling hours; however, a memorial service will be held in the near future.

Honan Funeral Home in Newtown is serving the family.
