Day Camps at Dickinson Memorial Park and Treadwell Park officially began the summer on Monday, June 20, with the first day of camp at both parks.newtown-ct.gov/Public_Documents/NewtownCT_Park/index.

"We're off to a good start," said Parks & Recreation Assistant Director of Recreation RoseAnn Reggiano after the close of the first day.

Ms Reggiano said she visited Dickinson Day Camp for the start of festivities, when she saw children smiling and happy. When she stopped by Treadwell Day Camp, the campers were preparing for the first swimming lessons of the summer.

Leah Pizighelli, director at the Dickinson Day Camp, said they had great luck in the weather Monday. As the campers gathered under the pavilion, pictured, Ms Pizighelli said she was happy to see a number of new faces and familiar faces.

On the second Monday, June 27, of the Day Camp at Treadwell, campers gathered around Mad Science's Joe Esposito for a pressure rocket demonstration. Campers participated in a variety of activities with Mr Esposito, including "stomp rockets," which had two children compete to propel rockets the farthest by stomping on cushions.

More information about camps and programs offered by the Newtown Parks & Recreation department is available off its website,
