A minimalist interpretation of one of the doors of the Fairfield Hills duplexes by Newtown resident and artist Paula Brinkman will be the signature art of the 2025 Newtown Arts Festival, set this year for September 26-28. The art will be available on posters and T-shirts at the festival.

The festival will be presented 11 am-5 pm Saturday and Sunday, on the large playing fields at the corner of Trades Lane and DG Beers Boulevard within the Fairfield Hills campus.

Tickets are $5 for adults. Ages 5 and under will be admitted free.

Brinkman is not new to creating art for the festival, having created the signature art for the 8th Newtown Arts Festival in 2019 based on her love of painting hearts on a back driveway at Fairfield Hills.

“There are two styles of lintels in the duplexes,” Brinkman has noted. “I chose one of them to create the art. And I have a love of drawing, so this project was perfect,” she added.

Brinkman is also well known for recruiting three artists to join her in painting plywood “doors” for eight of the duplexes in 2020.

At the festival, 10 food trucks and The Wine and Beer Garden will be returning. One hundred artisans, from woodturning and jewelry to jams and jellies, will be in the center of the festival on both days.

Also returning is the Freeway, four tents plus Terrific Totes, with craft activities to see and do and for which there is no extra charge.

Returning to the festival this year will also be The Art of Science, with EverWonder Museum leading the workshops; and The Society for the Creative Arts in Newtown (SCAN) demonstrating plein air painting on Saturday, among the festival’s many offerings.

There will again be music both days, with eight bands appearing throughout each day as well as the Newtown High School band.

The Newtown Arts Festival will also continue to provide their now well-known and popular shade tents so that visitors can enjoy every part of the festival.

Sponsored by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, Newtown Arts Festival funds scholarships for Newtown residents who are graduating high school seniors. The festival also funds grants for Newtown artists and organizations that bring the arts to Newtown.
