Broadway’s ‘Chicago’ Will Find A Home On TheatreWorks Stage

NEW MILFORD — This summer, thanks to extraordinary producers’ permission, TheatreWorks New Milford will present the currently running Broadway smash Chicago by Fred Ebb, Bob Fosse and John Kander. The director is Bradford Blake with designs by Bill Hughes — the same creative team that produced the past TheatreWorks hits Sweeney Todd and Cabaret.

Based on a 1926 play by Chicago Tribune reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, Chicago tells the story of Roxie Hart, a chorus girl who murders her two-timing boyfriend, tries to pin it on her clueless husband, and then manages not only to avoid prison with the help of razzle-dazzle lawyer Billy Flynn, but uses the trial to propel herself to showbiz stardom along with another murderous chorus girl, Velma Kelly. A dark parable of American justice, Chicago is a sexy musical extravaganza that includes several show-stopping numbers such as “All That Jazz,” “Razzle Dazzle” and “Class.”

Chicago runs July 19 through August 17. Curtain time is 8 pm each Friday and Saturday, and 7 pm on Sundays, August 4 and 11. There will also be 2 pm matinees on Saturdays, August 10 and 17.

Tickets for all shows are $20 for general admission and $30 for premium front row table seating. Please note that Saturday, July 20 is sold out.

On Thursday, July 18, senior citizens are invited to view a free dress rehearsal at 8 pm. Thursday, July 25, at 8 pm will be TheatreWorks’ Pay-What-You-Want night. At this performance audience members name the price for their tickets.

Reservations can be made by calling the box office at 860-350-6863. Reservations are not accepted for any of the special Thursday night performances.

Theatre Works is an award-winning, volunteer, professional-level non-Equity theater company located at 5 Brookside Avenue, just off Route 202 in New Milford.
