Critique And Discussion At Next SCAN Meeting, July 10

The Society for Creative Arts of Newtown will host an individual critique of artwork by Marija McCarthy during the group’s next meeting – Wednesday, July 10, at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be at Newtown Meeting House, at 31 Main Street, Newtown (Route 25, at the flagpole).

Marija Pavlovich McCarthy of Woodbury received her art training in her native Yugoslavia at the Academy of Fine Art, Belgrade, and in the United States at Corcoran School of Art and George Washington University.

Ms McCarthy works in both oil and watercolor. She is a signature member of New England Watercolor Society and an artist member of Copley Society of Boston and the New Haven Paint and Clay Club.

Her work has been featured in American Artist (May 1990), Best of Watercolor (Rockport Publishers, Inc., 1995), and in Watercolor (Spring 1996).

Since moving to Woodbury, Ms McCarthy has taught painting at Washington Art Association and Flanders Nature Center. Her paintings are in the National Museum of Yugoslavia, the presidential collections of Pakistan and Tunisia, and in corporate, Congressional and private collections throughout the world.

The July 10 meeting is open to the public free of charge and promises to be an excellent opportunity to learn from an expert. Ms McCarthy will evaluate paintings by SCAN members and provide insight that will enhance the understanding of the principles of art for anyone in attendance. She will discuss use of the different mediums and the treatment of theme in artwork.
