Regional Hospice To Hold Bereavement Support Groups In Newtown

Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut will be holding a series of Newtown-based bereavement support groups during the upcoming months to assist individuals who have recently lost a loved one and are experiencing feelings of grief related to the loss. The group counseling is offered free of charge and is open to residents of Newtown and surrounding communities.

Groups will be led by Jennifer Casey. Ms Casey is a skilled bereavement counselor with a master’s degree in social work.

Regional Hospice, headquartered in Danbury, provides an array of high quality services to terminally ill patients and their families. The organization also offers a variety of bereavement services, including a special program for grieving children called “Healing Hearts.”

Hospice was recently reaccredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), achieving a score of 99 out of 100 during a review of its programs.

Bereavement support groups will be held on an ongoing basis at the C.H. Booth Library and participants may come to as many or as few as they like to get the support that they need.

Groups will be held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from 5 to 6:30 pm.

The next five groups are scheduled for July 24; August 14 and 28; and September 11 and 25. To preregister or discuss the group, contact Kendall Palladino, director of Spiritual and Bereavement Programs for Regional Hospice toll free at 888-357-3334, extension 37. Preregistration is required.
