Farmers’ Market Returns

 On Tuesdays In Sandy Hook

The annual Sandy Hook Organic Farmers’ Market will be opening Tuesday, July 6, in the parking lot and field behind St John’s Episcopal Church on Washington Avenue. Hours will be from 9 am to 2 pm.

“We decided to keep the market open a little later to accommodate people who have their lunch hour from 1 to 2 pm,” said market organizer Mary Fellows.

Several area farmers will be back contributing fruits and vegetables grown without the use of pesticides or insecticides, and others will offer baked goods made from natural ingredients and without the use of chemical preservatives.

“There will be more bakers, more crafters,” Ms Fellows promised. “The breakfast and lunch café will be back. Pony rides also will be back, from 11 am to 1 pm.”

Among the farmers will be Shortt’s Farm of Sandy Hook, Fort Hill Farm of New Milford, Shaker Organics of Woodbury, and Moonshadow Farm of Southbury. New among the crafters will be Bears Hill Pottery and Topaz Art Studio, both of Newtown. Bittersweet Ridge of Bridgewater also will be among the new vendors.

“This year it will be farmers’ market in the round because we have a new field,” Ms Fellows said. “We took out the mound — flattened it — so there is much more room and the walk from the parking lot is shorter.”

The Sandy Hook Organic Farm Market will be open every Tuesday through October.
