Underage Alcohol

Police said their underage drinking patrol on June 25 charged a local youth with two offenses.

Police said that they found Shane Huebner, 16, of 9 Black Cherry Lane at the state’s Pond Brook Boat Launch parking area on Hanover Road on the night of June 25 in his motor vehicle with two containers of alcohol in plain sight.

Police transported Huebner to the police station where he was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor and with violating the operating hours of a state forest or park.

Police said they turned over Huebner to his parents. Huebner was released on a promise to appear July 8 in Danbury Superior Court.

Vandalism Charges

On June 25, a passerby allegedly saw Michael Scianna, 16, of 12 Bridge End Farm Lane vandalizing a street sign on Glen Road, police said. Police said that on investigating the complaint, they found another street sign in the area with damage similar to the damage that Scianna allegedly did to the Glen Road street sign.

Police said they charged Scianna with two counts of third degree criminal mischief, after which they released him to his father. Scianna is scheduled to appear in court July 13 to answer the charges.

Riverside Road

At approximately 1:45 am on June 27, someone stole a mailbox and its post from in front of 64 Riverside Road, police said. A small, dark-colored sport-utility vehicle was seen leaving the scene at the time. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the theft to contact them at 426-5841 or 270-8888.

Highway Crash

State police report a two-car accident on eastbound Interstate 84 in Hawleyville, west of the Old Hawleyville Road overpass, at about 12:33 pm June 21.

State police said motorist Angela Catanzaro, 20, of Windham, N.H, who was driving a 1995 Volkswagen Jetta, lost control of the Volkswagen and struck guardrailing and motorist David Mahoney, 76, of Southbury, who was driving a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis.

Both drivers were injured in the accident, state police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident. State police said Catanzaro failed to maintain the proper lane.

Toyota Hits Rock

Motorist Anthony Gadoci, 16, of 331 South Main Street was driving a 1994 Toyota Corolla westward on Castle Hill Road about 10:30 pm June 27, when after passing that road’s intersection with Pumpkin Lane and while negotiating a curve in the road, the Toyota went out of control and struck a rock alongside the westbound road shoulder, police report.

Gadoci was not injured. Police issued Gadoci a written warning for making a restricted turn.

South Main Rear-Ender

Police report a two-car collision near 71 South Main Street about 6 pm June 25.

Northbound motorist M.J. Mastrobattista, 40, of Redding, who was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry station wagon, drove into the rear end of a northbound 1999 Volkswagen Jetta sedan driven by Andrew Reidy, 29, of Sunrise, Fla., police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Mastrobattista for following too closely.

Main Street Crash

Police report a two-car accident at 63 Main Street about 2:46 pm June 21.

Motorist Nikolaos Sidiropoulos, 39, of Westport, who was driving a 1988 Honda Accord southward, struck a parked 2004 Subaru Impreza driven by John Watson, 75, of 18 Taunton Lake Drive, police said. At the time, the Subaru was parked on the southbound road shoulder.

Neither motorist was injured, police said. Sidiropoulos received a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
