PETER LANDA’S ‘FAR EAST’ SCENES ON VIEW AT EASTON LIBRARY

Avv/gs set 7-2 #705320

EASTON, CONN. — Peter Landa of Easton exhibits paintings and monotypes in the exhibit, “Far East; Scenes From China, Japan and Korea,” through September 4, at the Easton Public Library.

Landa has spent more than three years in the Far East and has an intimate knowledge of the people and the landscapes. He lived in both Japan and Korea and traveled extensively in China and Southeast Asia, where he gained an appreciation for the art, culture and everyday scenes of the region.

Originally from Chicago, Landa is now a resident of Easton. He works with pen and ink and makes prominent use of the “lucky” color red in depicting the intimate details of everyday life of farmers, fishermen and village marketers.

“Spending time in the Orient allowed me the opportunity to observe firsthand the culture of today but also it opened my eyes to the past history of the region,” he said. “The changes and upheavals of the last two centuries in virtually all of the Asian countries, and the speed in which they transformed themselves from pre-Medieval times to modern day, inspired and fascinated me.”

The Easton Public Library is at the corner of Morehouse and Center Roads. For information, 203-261-0134 or www.eastonlibrary.org.
