Borough Crash

At about 2:20 pm on June 17 near the northern driveway entrance to Newtown Middle School at 11 Queen Street, stopped motorist Christine Doscher, 46, of 20 Alder Lane, who was driving a 2010 Toyota Highlander SUV, backed up and struck a stopped 2006 Honda Accord sedan driven by William Ryan, 38, of Naugatuck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Truck Vs Truck

An accident involving two pickup trucks occurred about 3:14 pm on June 19 near 47 Sugar Street.

Police said motorist Thomas Kokinchak, 50, of 47 Sugar Street, who was driving a 2003 Nissan eastward on Sugar Street, was slowing to make a right turn into his driveway, when the Nissan was struck from behind by an eastbound  2000 GMC driven by Daniel Gizzie, 69, of Prospect.

There were no injuries. Gizzie received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Jeep Hits Tree

Motorist Austin Thane Brady, 17, of 3 Arthur’s Court was driving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV northward on Hattertown Road about 10:30 am on June 20 and then attempted to make a right turn onto Boggs Hill Road, but the Jeep went out of control and struck tree alongside Boggs Hill Road, according to police.

Brady was not injured. Brady received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.

South Main

Motorist Christopher Anderheggen, 58, of Danbury was driving a 2011 Audi A-5 cabriolet northward on South Main Street and was slowing for traffic near Apple Blossom Lane at about 12:12 pm on June 21, when the Audi was struck from behind by motorist Kishore Gunda, 41, of Rocky Hill, who was driving a 2000 Honda Civic sedan, according to police.

There were no injuries. Gunda received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Van Vs Dog

Police report that at about 12:42 pm on June 21, motorist James R. O’Brien III, 53, of Southbury was driving a 2004 Ford Econoline van northward on Forest View Drive, when a dog ran out onto the street and collided with the van.

The dog received an injured front leg. Police said they issued the dog’s owner an infraction for allowing a dog to roam.

Toyota Vs Ford

At about 1:07 pm on June 21, motorist Jennifer Faircloth, 40, of 11 Grace Moore Road, who was driving a 2004 Toyota SUV, was exiting her driveway, as motorist David O’Sullivan, 42, of 2 Strawberry lane, who was driving a 2014 Ford hatchback, was traveling northward on Grace Moore Road, police report.

The two vehicles collided. O’Sullivan and a passenger in the Ford refused medical treatment at the scene, police said. Faircloth received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

Lost or Stolen Pocketbook

Police said that sometime between 2 and 4 pm on June 23, a woman’s blue and white pocketbook with a floral design went missing at the pavilion on Lake Zoar at Underhill Road. The pocketbook either was lost or was stolen, police said. Police ask anyone with information about the missing pocketbook to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841 in reference to case #2014-12137.

Copper Theft

Police report they are investigating a possible theft of copper in which the thieves got away from the unspecified scene of the theft riding lightweight motorcycles along the Housatonic Railroad’s train tracks on the afternoon of June 25.

Police said they have surveillance photos that show the two young white adult males riding motorcycles northward along the tracks at about 4 pm in an unspecified location while carrying coils of copper wire.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of a copper theft on June 25 to contact investigating Officer Felicia Figol at the police station at 203-426-5841.

SUV Hits Pole

About 1:12 pm on June 25, motorist Miranda Wakeman, 16, of 119 Brushy Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV southward on Brushy Hill Road, near its intersection with Deep Brook Road, swerved to the right and struck a utility pole, police report.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Wakeman to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to police. Wakeman received an infraction for making a restricted turn, police said.

Chrysler vs Drain

Police report that motorist Christopher Tenney, 20, of 48 Charter Ridge was driving a 2005 Chrysler Sebring sedan westward on Birch Hill Road, near Cross Brook Road, about 9:30 pm on June 25, when while negotiating a curve in the road, he lost control of the auto and struck a stormwater drainage structure.

There were no injuries. Tenney received an infraction for making a restricted turn, police report.

Main Street

Police report that at about 12:05 pm on June 26, motorist Victoria Hensel, no age or address given, was driving an unspecified vehicle southward near 55 Main Street when the vehicle moved to the right and struck a tree on a lawn.

Police report that Hensel was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. The accident is under investigation.

Walgreens Theft

Police responded to Walgreens Pharmacy on the corner of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road about 1:40 pm on June 26 to investigate a reported theft.

Police said their investigation found that store employee Mary Joe DaSilva-Moniz, 25, of Waterbury had illegally taken some pills from the pharmacy.

Police charged DaSilva-Moniz with illegal possession of narcotics and with sixth-degree larceny. After processing the case, police released her on $500 bail for a July 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Lexus Vs Chevy

Police report a low-speed two-vehicle accident in the parking lot at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street about 2:20 pm on June 27.

In that incident, a 2007 Lexus GX-470 SUV driven by Carrie Usher, 50, of 11 Jordan Hill Road struck a parked 2014 Chevrolet Equinox SUV, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Sedans Collide On I-84

A two-vehicle collision occurred on eastbound Interstate 84 on a bridge that crosses above Hawleyville Road (Route 25) on the afternoon of June 27, state police said.

In that incident, motorist Aluyzio Dasilva, 19, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2009 Lincoln MKS sedan, came to a stop due to heavy traffic and was then struck from behind by motorist Lucy Montelli, 63, of Bristol, who was driving a 2009 Kia Spectra sedan, state police said.

Montelli was transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital on a report of pain, state police said. Enforcement information was not available. The accident caused travel delays in the area.

Collision Drives Paramedic Off Mt Pleasant Road

A sport-utility vehicle driven by a paramedic wound up on a steep embankment alongside Mt Pleasant Road, near Tory Lane, about 7 pm on June 27, following its involvement in a two-vehicle accident while it was en route to a medical emergency, police report.

Police said that paramedic Justin Walsh, 37, of Woodbury was driving a 2013 Ford Explorer SUV owned by Danbury Ambulance eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, with its emergency lights and siren on, when motorist Terrence Hedderman, 73, of Bedford, Texas, who was driving a 2003 Saturn sedan, made a turn in front of the ambulance, resulting in the two vehicles colliding. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Hedderman an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign and for obstructing an emergency vehicle.

Hook & Ladder and Hawleyville volunteer firefighters were called to the accident scene.

Currituck DUI

At about 11 pm on June 27, motorist Nathaniel Greenfield, 33, of Bethel was driving a 1991 Chevrolet C-1500 pickup truck on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Hedge Meadow Lane, when the truck collided with some guardrailing, police said.

Police received a report about the crash and investigated, after which they charged Greenfield with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, and driving under suspension.

Following arrest processing, Greenfield was released from custody on $5,000 bail for a July 15 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

I-84 DUI Arrest

State police report that at about 2 am on June 28, police were entering westbound Interstate 84 in Southbury and spotted motorist Manuel Simoes III, 32, of 48 Great Ring Road, Newtown, driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse sports car at a very high speed on the highway.

Simoes was weaving through traffic and passing vehicles on the right, police said. Simoes traveled through a construction zone at Rochambeau Bridge, police said.

Police stopped Simoes in Newtown to investigate and charged him with driving under the influence and with speeding in a construction zone. Simoes was released on $500 bail following arrest processing for a July 9 court arraignment on the charges.

DUI Arrest

Police report they responded to a complaint stating that a one-vehicle accident had occurred near the intersection of Sugar Street and Sugar Lane about 10:20 pm on June 28.

There were no injuries. After investigating, police charged motorist Kerry Leko, 41, of 16 Pepperidge Road with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, failure to carry a driver’s license, failure to carry a vehicle registration and/or automotive insurance identification card.

After processing the case, police released Leko on $100 bail for a July 15 court appearance.

Seven Charges

Police report they received a call about 2 pm on June 29, reporting that an unwanted person was present at Caraluzzi’s Market at 5 Queen Street, so they responded to investigate.

Police said that a records check indicated that they held a warrant for David Cunningham, 29, of 7 Sugar Street, so they served it against him, lodging one count of fifth-degree larceny, and two counts each of sixth-degree larceny, theft of a credit card, and credit card fraud.

Police said they held Cunningham on $1,000 bail for court arraignment on the charges on June 30. Cunningham pleaded not guilty to all seven charges. He was being held on July 2 on $1,050 bail at the Bridgeport Correctional Center for a July 24 court appearance.

Also pending against Cunningham are two charges which police lodged against him on April 16 — sixth-degree larceny and credit card theft — in connection with an incident at Caraluzzi’s. Cunningham has pleaded not guilty to both those charges.     

Police have reported that on the afternoon of April 16, they charged Cunningham for allegedly having stolen items from the pocketbook of an shopper which had been left in a shopping cart at the market.

South Main DUI

Motorist Severiano Aguilar, 35, of Bridgeport was observed by a passerby driving a Ford Explorer SUV erratically at about 6:30 pm on June 29, so police went to the area of the report to investigate and found the vehicle in question parked alongside  South Main Street with its emergency flashers flashing.

After investigating, police charged Aguilar with driving under the influence and driving without a license. After processing, Aguilar was released on $1,000 bail for a July 15 court appearance.

 DUI Incident

Police report that motorist Logan Mammen, 21, of 5 Shady Rest Boulevard was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla sedan southward near 199 Huntingtown Road about 5 am on June 29, when the vehicle went across the road while on a curve and struck a stone wall.

There were no injuries. Police said they charged Mammen with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Mammen was released on $100 bail for a July 15 court appearance, police report.

Currituck Collision

Motorist Daniel Cobbs, 21, of Norwalk was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry sedan westward near 93 Currituck Road at about 4:12 pm on June 30, when a deer ran out onto the road and collided with the auto, police said. Cobbs was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Intersection Crash

At about 7:51 am on July 1, motorist Forest Gajdosik, 32, of 10 Locust Drive was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer SUV southward on South Main Street, as motorist Daniel Thibodeau, 56, of Danbury was driving a 2001 Ford Escape SUV northward on South Main Street, police said.

The Ford then attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Country Club Road, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

There were no injuries. Thibodeau received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way, police said.
