The concert will take place outdoors on the lawn behind the Newtown library, and admission is free. Bring blankets or chairs for seating; picnics are welcome, but clean up after yourself. In the event of rain the concert will be moved indoors. C.H. Booth Library is at 25 Main Street, near the flagpole in Newtown, and can be reached by calling 426-4533.

*Monday morning, promoters announced a “major release” of production tickets for the JANET JACKSON show on Saturday, August 11, at Hartford Civic Center. Good seats are now available to purchase. Tickets are available for $79, $57.75 and $37.75. Civic Center tickets are available online, over the phone and over the counter from any TicketMaster agent.

*Also this week, radio 104 unveiled the details for its radio 104 Fest 2001, which will be Monday, September 3 (Labor Day) at the ctnow.com Meadows Music Centre. This year’s featured bands will include BLINK 182, ALIEN ANT FARM, SUM41, SCAPEGOAT WAX, NEWFOUND GLORY, PRIME S.T.H. and STEREOMUD, with more bands to be announced as the summer — the unending on-air promotions for this show — drag on. By September 3, there will be 25 bands. Tickets are $25 and are going on sale Saturday morning at 10 am through radio104.com, the Meadows box office, Strawberries, Coconuts and LaSalle Music stores, or tickets.com outlets.

*The JERRY CANTRELL show that had to be postponed from May at The Webster Theater in Hartford is coming up on July 14. Mirv and Swarm will now be opening the show, and tickets are still available.

A few nights later EVERCLEAR returns to the Hartford club, with American Hi-Fi and Mayfield 4 both presenting opening sets. Flip has apparently been dropped from that July 18 bill, according to the theatre’s Web site/calendar listing as of this week.

Also coming up quickly, later this month, are shows at The Webster by BUCKCHERRY on July 26, with Econoline Crush opening, OUR LADY PEACE the following night, with Sinomatic opening, and then COLLECTIVE SOUL on July 29 (no opener is being mentioned for that show). All of these Webster shows (as are most of the shows being presented up there lately) are open to fans of all ages. Tickets are on sale for these shows, and the Webster works with tickets.com for its sales. Call tickets.com at 860-422-0000 or go online to, obviously, www.tickets.com. If you get in a pinch, call the Webster’s box office directly at 860-525-5553.

*Tickets for the July 13 show by STAIND are also available through tickets.com. The band returns to Hartford, this time for a WCCC-sponsored show and this time at the Connecticut Expo Center (Staind played a radio 104 show at the Meadows in mid-May). Cold and Adema will both open, and all seats — with general admission seating — are $25.

Until next week, I’ll be seeing you... on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks, c/o Bee Publishing Co., 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown 06470, or shannon@thebee.com; or call The Bee office at 426-3141.

Shows listed on the calendar at club locations are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
