Occupation: I’m a marketing manager with IBM out of Southbury, but I have the ability to work from home. I’ve been with IBM for 26 years.

Family: My husband, Rich, and I have a son, Charlie. Charlie is almost 8 years old. He was in the second grade at St Rose this year.

Pets: We have a dog named Zoey, who is a black golden doodle. She has lovely wavy hair, but she doesn’t shed, which is heaven. Zoey is almost a year and a half old. She’s a maniac, but we love her and wouldn’t have her any other way.

How long have you lived in Newtown? My husband and I moved here 14 years ago from Fairfield.

What do you like to do in your free time? Charlie is very involved in sports, so I love going to watch and cheer him on. I’m part of the St Rose Contemporary Folk Group. I love to sing. Walking the dog is a big part of the day, at Fairfield Hills or around town. I’m part of a book club, too. It’s a great way to get me reading.

What is your club reading? We’re reading a rather graphic book called The Monster of Florence, about a serial killer. We recently read The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It was excellent. We read a great book called Loving Frank, about Frank Lloyd Wright. Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, about the Japanese interment here in America during World War II was very interesting. I learned a lot. I do tend to like the historical fiction.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? A beach. I love the beach. One of our favorites is Fortune’s Rock Beach in Maine. It has an enormous sandbar at low tide, and we go into Kennebunkport a couple of nights a week. And any beach in the Caribbean is wonderful.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I would say that I have truly enjoyed the people we have met and the friends we have made here. Newtown is beautiful and it’s steeped in history and traditions like the Labor Day Parade. It has a nice “homey” feeling.

Do you have a hero? My father. My grandfather was an Irish immigrant who became a NYC fireman and was killed by a drunk driver in Middletown when my dad was only 2 years old. His mother never remarried. My dad put himself through undergraduate school, law school, and created an incredible, loving home for my mother and four children. He’s best friends with my mother. He has made it through a lot and he is still one of the most optimistic, generous people you could meet. I think he is a genetically happy guy.

Do you have a personal philosophy? An oldie, but a goodie: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. And one that I love and hope to pass on to my son some day is the lyrics from the Lee Ann Womack song, “I Hope You Dance.” I hope he enjoys life. It’s a gift.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Watching Grey’s Anatomy and Brothers and Sisters two hours a week. I sit there with my popcorn and enjoy. It takes me to a different place.
