Charlotte Kalley, 89, a longtime Newtown resident, died peacefully June 30. She was born May 16, 1928, daughter of Elfrieda and Adolph Milen in Far Rockaway, N.Y., where she lived until her marriage on September 18, 1949, to James Kalley. They lived on Long Island and moved to Newtown in 1967.

Mrs Kalley served as president of the Welcome Wagon and later as president of the Woman's Club in Newtown.

She was a longtime member of the Newtown Congregational Church and was approaching her 50th anniversary as a member. At the church, she was part of the Women's group and an active member of the choir.

Music played a large role in her life; Mrs Kalley performed with the Newtown Choral Society and Danbury Concert Chorus. With the Concert Chorus, she was honored to perform at the July Fourth Bicentennial Celebration in Philadelphia and on a concert tour in Europe.

As much as possible, summers where spent on Cape Cod, where she and Jim owned a second home for 35 years. Time on the beach was her passion.

Her two sons, Craig Kalley of Cheshire and Glen Kalley and his wife MaryMargaret of Louisville, Ky.; a grandson, Zachary Kalley; her brother, Alfred Milen of Queensbury, N.Y.; and family in Germany survive her.

Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, on Wednesday, July 5, from 4 to 7 pm.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date.

Memorial donations can be made to the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, Newtown CT 06470 or to the charity of one's choice.
