Critical Of Re-Election Announcement
To The Editor:
Regarding the June 26 Bee article on First Selectman Jeff Capeci announcing his reelection campaign:
That the Bee would cover the first selectman's announcement that he is running for re-election by publishing a self-aggrandizing press release, mostly verbatim, without background, context or challenge, as a news article -- without a byline and poorly written -- paints the paper as, at best, incurious. It certainly isn't journalism and is a disservice to readers. I hope your political coverage going forward will be more discerning.

Editor's Note: A candidacy announcement is just the beginning of The Newtown Bee's coverage of the upcoming political season. It is a not-uncommon practice for The Bee to run such announcements as press releases and save more in depth, staff driven coverage for later in the election cycle, particularly when an announcement comes at a time when there is a tight turnaround to make it in for deadline.
Thank you both for running my letter and the excellent editor’s note.
I deeply appreciate the Bee and what it means to Newtown.
