To The Editor:

I want to go on record in my opposition to the proposed new ordinance about rallies and demonstrations in Newtown. We have always had the constitutional right to demonstrate peacefully, and from what I understand this new ordinance is intended to take away that right.

We have all been watching the gradual declining of our democracy since Trump came down that “golden escalator” in 2015. Some of us are fighting back, some of us are just hoping against hope that our country will survive intact, and some of us are cashing in.

This move to take away our right to peacefully protest through rallies is one more slide into autocracy. I am horrified that it may be happening in Newtown.
