Poll: Obama Leads McCain In Conn.

HAMDEN (AP) — A Quinnipiac University poll finds Democrat Barack Obama would beat Republican John McCain by a wide margin in Connecticut in a hypothetical matchup.

Obama now leads McCain 56 percent to 35 percent.

The poll, released Wednesday, shows the Illinois senator has support from nearly every subgroup of voters except Republicans. He tops McCain among younger and older voters, people with and without college degrees, men, women, blacks and whites.

The margin of sampling error for the 2,437 likely Connecticut voters is plus or minus 2 percentage points.

If McCain picks Senator Joe Lieberman as his running mate, the poll finds only 14 percent of Connecticut voters say they are more likely to vote Republican.
