Rich’s Keys And Locks Scores Combined 25 Runs And Wins U14 Softball Tournament

Rich’s Keys and Locks won the U14 Northern Fairfield County spring softball tournament this past week by defeating Pattis Pantry of Southbury 13-12 in the semifinals and knocking off designerbodies of Newtown 12-8 in the championship.

Rich’s Keys and Locks 13, Patti’s Pantry of Southbury 12: Rich’s Keys and Locks came from two runs down in the bottom of the seventh inning to advance to the finals. The last inning rally was started with hits from Jade Mather, Sarah Kowats, Kelly Ann McCarthy and Katie Salaris. With two out and the game tied, Erin Begg reached first base with a single to left field, was advanced to third on a double by Colleen Durkin, and scored after Mary Beth Meier hit a solid single to right field. Dianna Carozza and Katie Fossum were defensive standouts for Rich’s Keys.

Rich’s Keys and Locks 12, designerbodies of Newtown 8: Katie Appley pitched three solid innings to help Rich’s Keys and Locks secure the championship. Elizabeth Grimes and Amanda Rowan each had 2 hits and 2 RBI to lead designerbodies’ hitting. Katelyn Dandrea scored twice and Caitlin Dowling played well defensively. Taylor Demirjian and Erin Begg each pitched well. Tori Picerno, Jessica Fossum, Sarah Connor, Megan Duero, and Kelly Ann McCarthy all spent time on the disabled list this past season, but each contributed to the championship win.

Rich’s Keys and Locks are coached by Ed Durkin and Tony Fossum and designerbodies is coached by Jim Post and Walt Schneider.
