Would You Know

What To Do?

To the Editor:

All it takes is a split second: A child has an accident, an adult suffers a heart attack, someone you’re speaking to suddenly turns pale and woozy. What do you do?

Last Friday, Lori Veillette of the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps gave almost two hours of her time to address these very issues with a group of librarians and book sale volunteers at the C.H. Booth Library. None of us is proficient enough in first aid to provide medical care, but we do now better understand when to call an ambulance and what to do until trained help arrives. A few of us may even sign up for a first-aid course, too.

We are very fortunate to have neighbors willing and able to staff the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Thank you. And, I know you join me in urging your readers to give them our financial support when they come calling.

Sincerely,

Denise A. Kaiser
