Osborne Homestead Will Be Among Ten Locations

To Celebrate CT Historic Gardens Day

DERBY — The Osborne Homestead Museum, along with the rest of the Connecticut Historic Gardens Trail, will celebrate Connecticut’s Historic Gardens Day on Sunday, July 8, by offering special museum and garden tours. From noon to 4 pm, visitors can enjoy guided tours of the lovely Colonial Revival gardens on the Kellogg Estate. Guests can also visit the historic house museum to learn about Frances Osborne Kellogg’s passion for gardening and conservation.

Complimentary museum and garden tours will be offered every half hour. There is no registration required for the program.

The Osborne Homestead Museum explores the life and times of Frances Osborne Kellogg, an accomplished businesswoman and conservationist who was passionate about her gardens. She created tranquil gardens to have a peaceful place to retreat from the hectic world of the early 20th Century. Visitors today can continue to enjoy same sense of serenity in these gardens.

The Osborne Homestead Museum is regularly open for free guided tours on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am to 3 pm, Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm, and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. The museum is at 500 Hawthorne Avenue in Derby, off Route 34.

Sunday will be the celebration of the 4th Annual Historic Gardens Day. There are ten additional gardens on the trail: Beatrix Ferrand Garden at Three Rivers Farm/Promisek in Bridgewater; The Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden in Bethlehem; Butler McCook House and Garden, Hartford; Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme; Glebe House Museum & Jekyll Garden, Woodbury; Harkness Memorial State Park, Waterford; Harriet Beecher Stowe Center, Hartford; Hill-Stead Museum, Farmington; Roseland Cottage in Woodstock; and Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum, Wethersfield.

Each site will offer special activities emphasizing their garden program. Programs and fees vary.
