Renegades Win Two, Battle Back For Tie

The Newtown Renegades 86 baseball team got off to strong start in I-84 League play with two wins and a tie this past week. Game results are as follows:

Renegades 17, Fairfield 2: The Renegades hosted and won their first home game in 84 League play on Thursday at Sandy Hook School. Dillon Robinson, Will Swift, and Shaine Luzietti took to the mound, keeping the hitters from Fairfield off balance all night. The Renegades’ hurlers held the visitors to two hits in five innings. The entire Renegades’ lineup contributed, with the team scoring four runs in the first inning, another five in the third inning, and finishing with an eight-run fourth inning.

Renegades 9, Danbury 8: The Newtown Renegades faced off against Danbury on Saturday at Sandy Hook School. Down 8-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Renegades came to the plate ready to mount a comeback. With no outs and the tying run on third base, Will Swift hit a hard ground ball to score Shaine Luzietti. Dillon Robinson came to bat and knocked a single to right field over the first base bag bringing in Matt Bradbury for the win.

Renegades 13, Norwalk 13: Down 12-2 in the fourth inning, the Renegades mounted yet another comeback. Newtown scored five runs to pull to within five before Norwalk scored in the fifth for a 13-7 lead. Renegades stormed back, scoring six runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 13 apiece. Due to the game time limit rule, that’s how the story ended. Joey Rios, Connor Haywood, and Matthew Bradbury each tripled in the inning. Haywood drove in five runs.
