Pick Your Own Farms

HARTFORD – The 2005 “Connecticut-Grown Pick Your Own Fruits & Vegetables” brochure has been published by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture and is available to consumers.

The guide offers an index of more than 60 farms throughout the state where the public can pick fresh rhubarb, cherries, white peaches, eggplant, tomatoes, grapes and kiwi, as well as traditional favorites like strawberries and apples.

Some of the pick your own farms (PYO) also have choose and cut Christmas trees. Many have roadside stands with cider, donuts, flowers, jams, honey, maple syrup, and other locally produced items. Some offer corn mazes and hayrides.

Among the farms are Paproski’s Castle Hill Farm at 40 Sugar Lane in Newtown, where pumpkins are available each fall as well as a corn maze, hayrides, pony rides, farm animals, bonfires and educational programs are available. For a complete list of farms, call 860-713-2575 .
