Newtown Stage Company Preparing Two Summer Productions
Newtown Stage Company (NSCo) is back for another exciting summer season, offering two outstanding musical productions that showcase the incredible talent of local performers from Newtown and surrounding communities.
For the first time, NSCo is adding a high school production to its summer schedule, providing even more opportunities for local young actors to shine on stage.
First on the stage will be Seussical The Musical Jr, running July 18-20. The family-friendly show features talented performers in grades 3-8 and brings to life the whimsical world of Dr Seuss, complete with beloved characters such as Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat and Gertrude McFuzz.
Directed by Ryan Loucks, with choreography by Erin Loucks and musical direction by Megan Kirk, Seussical Jr is an energetic and fun journey perfect for audiences of all ages. The family friendly production runs for 1 hour and 10 minutes with no intermission.
Scheduled performance dates and times are Friday, July 18, at 7 pm; Saturday, July 19, 1 and 7 pm; and Sunday, July 20, 1 pm.
‘Mean Girls: High School Edition’
Next month, talented local teens will take center stage in Mean Girls: High School Edition, running August 1-3. The hilarious and timely musical adaptation of the iconic 2004 film, Mean Girls follows Cady Heron as she enters the chaotic world of high school after growing up in Africa.
Directed by Katie Bloom, with musical direction by Kelly Burger and choreography by Erin Loucks and Angelina D’Albero, the NSCo show features performers in grades 8-12.
With a PG-13 rating, this production is ideal for older kids, teens, and adults. It has a runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission.
Scheduled performance dates and times for this production are Friday, August 1, at 7 pm; Saturday, August 2, 1 and 7 pm; and Sunday, August 3, at 1 pm.
Both productions feature top-notch production value, including stage management by Tyler Violette who is assisted by Cassidy Bloom and Leah Crebbin, with lighting by Paul Merchant and Lindsay Hayes, sets by Maren Leyva, costumes by Dawn Field and Kristen Castaldi. The shows are supported by a team of local volunteers and staff.
Tickets are $20 each, with reserved seating. To ensure a seat at these popular shows, it is recommended tickets be purchased in advance as NSCo productions have sold out regularly in the past. Tickets can be purchased at newtownstageco.com.
