Families That Eat Together Are Healthier

The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University launched Family Day in 2001 after its research consistently found that the more often kids eat dinner with their parents, the less likely they are to smoke, drink, or use illegal drugs.

Newtown will celebrate Family Day again this September, and The Newtown Prevention Council (NPC) is creating a Newtown Family Recipe Book which will serve as both a useful family tool and a fundraiser. The cookbook will be part of the September celebration and a way to help Newtown families enjoy more dinners together.

To participate, all residents are invited to share one of their favorites recipes that they make and eat together.

NPC is hoping for 80 to 100 recipes for the cookbook. Submissions are due August 15.

Families submitting recipes will receive a free copy of the cookbook.

Beth Agen of Newtown Prevention Council is receiving the recipes, either via email (beth.nys@sbcglobal.net) or snail mail c/o Newtown Prevention Council, 10 Glen Road, Sandy Hook CT 06482.

For more information contact Ms Agen via email or visit NewtownPrevention.org.
