Watercolor Painting Program By SCAN

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host a watercolor painting demonstration by Lori Woodward Simons next week.

Ms Simons will be at Newtown Meeting House on Wednesday, July 25, for the presentation at 1:30 pm. 

The Merrimack, N.H., resident will offer program on creating a floral still life. The program will be in the lower level meeting room. There is no charge for admission.

Ms Simons earned a bachelor’s in fine art education from the University of Arizona. Her work has appeared in several issues of American Artist Watercolor Magazine and she is the co-author of a Walter Foster instruction book Watercolor Step-by-Step.

Ms Simons paints in both watercolor and oil. She is a member of The Putney Painters, an invitational group in Vermont founded by Richard Schmid and Nancy Guzik. She is currently writing a series of instruction watercolor articles for Watercolor magazine, the first of which appeared in the Spring 2007 issue.

Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.

SCAN was founded in 1971 to promote the arts in Newtown and the surrounding area. The group meets at 7:30 pm on the second Wednesday and at 1:30 pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month at Newtown Meeting House.

There are no meetings in December, no day meeting in January, no night meeting in February.

Monthly meetings and demonstrations are part of SCAN activities as well as art shows and sales during the year, all open to the public free of charge. The organization also offers workshops and classes in different mediums. For more information call 426-6654.
