"Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue Chief William Halstead Passes Away," by John Voket, published July 9. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue (SHVFR) Chief William Halstead's passed away on July 8. Halstead was also Newtown's Director of Emergency Management, a post he had held since the position was created. "Two Killed In Motorcycle Crashes Within 24 Hours," by Jim Taylor, published July 4. Newtown Police Department responded to two separate fatal motorcycle crashes within 24 hours, both involving young riders whose ages were just about a year apart. "Five Companies Respond To Head Of Meadow Structure Fire," by Jim Taylor, published July 8. Newtown Hook & Ladder had a busy 24 hours recently. It started with a structure fire in the company’s district on Head of Meadow Road that required all five of Newtown’s volunteer companies’ resources — and ended the next day as Hook and Ladder volunteers assisted in fighting a damaging fire at New Milford High School. "No Charges Filed In Shooting Of Bobbi The Bear," by Jim Taylor, published July 8. Following a nearly two month investigation, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police announced that no charges will be filed in the shooting of a black bear known locally as Bobbi the Bear. "Town Funding Freeze Causing Concerns For C.H. Booth Library," by Alissa Silber, published July 5. C.H. Booth Library is apparently facing a dilemma after the Legislative Council maintained its funding for its 2022-23 municipal budget instead of granting a requested increase.
