“Country Camper Opening On Long-Vacant Industrial Site,” by Alissa Silber, published July 6. Country Camper, a Vermont-based, family-owned RV dealership in its 25th year of business, is coming to Newtown. The company announced July 6 that after searching throughout Connecticut for the location of its next facility, its owners selected a long-vacant industrial site near the Sand Hill Plaza. “Offensive Native American Mascots Must Go, Nighthawks Are Ahead Of The Curve,” by Andy Hutchison, published July 6. As Connecticut schools face changing Native American-themed mascot names to avoid losing financial assistance, Newtown High School is a quarter century beyond voluntarily switching its mascot from the Indian to the Nighthawk. “Officials OK Business Incentive To Lure Industrial Supplier,” by Jim Taylor, published July 9. Hoping to woo Kimball Midwest, a national, Ohio-based industrial supplier, to establish a warehouse facility in town, officials unanimously approved a business incentive program request recommended by the Newtown Economic Development Commission (EDC). “’We Are One Team’ Mural Created By Reed Educator,” by Eliza Hallabeck, published July 7. “Multi-Sport Athletes Magazu, Petersen Earn Recognition,” by Andy Hutchison, published July 7.
