And The Walls Came Tumbling Down

As Margaret Pearson dug frantically in her garden to save a few plants, Jay Cahill raised the large bucket on the end of his large machine and sent it crashing into the roof of the Pearson house at 56 Elm Drive on Wednesday morning, July 13. Within an hour’s time, the one-story ranch was on the ground, in pieces, ready to be loaded into dumpsters and carted off to a site in Pennsylvania for disposal.

“We were originally planning on just adding a second floor to the house, but the foundation would not support it,” Margaret said, so the wrecking ball was the next step. A modular home, designed to Pearson’s specs will be delivered and put in place on August 23. “We are really looking forward to having more space and, since we have designed a modular home once before, we feel comfortable with this option,” she said.

The house wrecking, under the direction of Jay Cahill & Son of Newtown, got off to a good start with the Pearson children and a friend taking aim at some of the windows with stones, successfully knocking out the large plate glass at the front of the house. “Look, there is the dining room lamp still hanging there,” one of them said, and within minutes that section of the house was on the ground, complete with lamp.
