Carillon Series To Include Site-Specific Premiere
DANBURY â When Charles Semowich performs the concluding concert in this summerâs Wednesday Carillon Series at St James Episcopal Church, his appearance will include the premiere of a new work written specifically for the Danbury-based series.
Carillon performers have returned to the church on West Street this summer to continue a special series of performances on the churchâs Bulkley Carillon.
The concerts are free of charge thanks to funding from Danbury Cultural Commission. The 30-minute open-air concerts begin at 12:30, and a limited number of chairs are available in the church garden. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair as a back-up seat, and should also bring their own lunch. Cool beverages will be available, free of charge.
The series continues this year with Lee B. Leach, the carillonneur for Tilton Memorial Carillon at Town Hall in Norwood, Mass., on July 20, and then Gerald Martindale, the carillonneur for Metropolitan United Church in Toronto, on July 27.
Mr Semowich will close this summerâs season on August 3. He is a carillonneur, composer and performer of carillon music at Albany City Carillon in Albany, N.Y., and as mentioned earlier his performance will include a tune specially written for the St James series.
