St Vincent’s College Adds New Major To Degree Program

BRIDGEPORT — St Vincent’s College has been awarded licensure to grant associates degrees in general studies by the State of Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education.

The college, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, is a leading provider of degrees in nursing and allied health. It has recently opened a Main Street annex to its campus and its enrollment has grown to over 400 students.

“Health care is our mission and will continue to be our focus as we expand our offerings. The general studies sequence, however, fills in a gap in our program and helps to meet the needs in our area,” said Dr John Fisher, president of St Vincent’s College.

Dr Fisher said the college’s location adjacent to St Vincent’s Medical Center provides a built-in market to serve the many medical center employees who wish to continue their education.

The General Studies sequence is the fifth major offered by St Vincent’s, which also provides degrees in nursing, cardiovascular technology, medical assisting, and radiography. St Vincent’s began issuing degrees in 1991, when it made the transition from nursing school to college. Since that time it has experienced a growing enrollment and has expanded financial aid opportunities for students.

In addition to its degree programs St Vincent’s College offers a wide range of certificate programs including hospital coding specialist, medical office assistant, central sterile processing technician, health care reimbursement specialist, diagnostic medical sonography, health promotion, health care management, multiskilled assistant, and RN refresher.

Beginning this fall the college will offer a new certification program in medical assisting, as well as an online sequence in health care management and health promotion.

St Vincent’s is a two-year Catholic college and its affiliation with St Vincent’s Medical Center provides many clinical learning opportunities for students. For information on degree and certification programs, call St Vincent’s College at 203-576-5235 or online@stvincentscollege.edu.
