Ten Year Anniversary For Jazz Festival, August 5-7

GOSHEN— Jazz Times magazine called is “among the best of the best” and one fan described it as “the sweetest little festival in the United States.”

The Litchfield Jazz Festival celebrates its tenth birthday this year, and organizers are saying it’s not better than ever, it’s as good as it always has been. From year one, the festival has presented legends and those who became legends — from Ray Charles and Tito Puente to Diana Krall and Brad Mehldau. This year, The Litchfield Jazz Festival will proudly present NEA Jazz Masters McCoy Tyner and Dave Brubeck, the legendary Eartha Kitt, and will introduce two talented young vocalists to the jazz scene.

Three days of music, outstanding food, art, crafts and performances by the amazing students of Litchfield Jazz Camp and Greenhouse – The Litchfield Dance Camp will round out the celebration. As always, students from the educational programs will perform on the Gazebo stage all weekend long.

This year’s festival will run Friday through Sunday, August 5-7. Vocalist Mary Stallings will be performing at 7:30, and then at 9 pm McCoy Tyner will make his Litchfield debut, joined by the Tony Award-winning choreographer and tap master Savion Glover.

Saturday’s events will include performances by The Bob Kindred Trio, The Denny Zeitlin Trio featuring drummer Matt Wilson and the legendary bassist Buster Williams, Sonya Kitchell at 3:30, pianist, songwriter and vocalist Bob Dorough at 5:15, the Grammy-winning Caribean Jazz Project at 7:15, and an evening performance by the legendary and still fabulous Eartha Kitt.

Sunday will open with Luiz Munoz at noon, The Festival All-Stars (saxophonist Don Braden, Mr Wilson, bassist John Benitez, pianist Peter Madsen and guitarist Freddie Bryant, plus the vocalist Lindsey Muir), then a performance by the pianist Junior Mance, vocalist Karrin Allyson at 5:15, Nicholas Payton & His Quintet, and a festival-closing performance by Dave Brubeck.

Tickets to The Litchfield Jazz Festival and full festival information are available by visiting www.LitchfieldJazzFest.com.

Advance tickets are $35 for lawn and $53 for tent per day. Premium tickets include Friday night’s “Friends of the Festival” tickets for $125 for the opening night concerts with upfront seating and party and “Best Friends” tickets for $350, which include the former privileges and upfront seating for all the weekend’s concerts.
