DUI Arrest

Police report they received a telephone call about 6:30 pm on July 12, informing them that an intoxicated man who was a customer at a Sandy Hook Center bar had driven away from the area.

Police said that they then went to that man’s home and found him to be intoxicated, after which they charged him with driving under the influence.

Police charged Christopher D. Hodge, 45, of 8 Kelly Court with that offense. After posting $100 bail, police released Hodge for a July 26 court appearance.

Appearance Charge

Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for her arrest, Claudia Camino, 21, of Monroe turned herself in at the police station on the afternoon of July 12, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court.

Police said that the original case stems from a March 27 incident on High Bridge Road in which Camino was charged with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license.

After posting $250 bail, police released Camino for a July 31 court appearance.

Pontiac Vs Toyota

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Main Street, Sugar Street, South Main Street, and Glover Avenue about 1:45 pm July 14.

Motorist Candice A. Woods, 17, of 60 Schoolhouse Hill Road was driving a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire coupe southward on Main Street and was attempting to make a left turn onto Glover Avenue, as motorist Julie Blick, 41, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Sienna minivan, was heading northward on South Main Street, police said. As the Pontiac was attempting to make the turn, it collided with the Toyota.

There were no injuries. Police issued Woods a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Digital Camera

On July 14, a Nikon Coolpix digital camera within a black leather case was found on Jeremiah Road in Sandy Hook. Police are holding the camera for safekeeping. The owner of the camera may claim it by contacting Patrol Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

Dodge Crash

Motorist Michael P. McCarthy, 17, of Danbury was driving a 2005 Dodge sedan near 59 Walnut Tree Hill Road about 11:20 pm July 14, when while negotiating a curve in the road, he lost control of the auto, spun around and went off the street, striking some curbing and a small tree, police report.

McCarthy was not injured. Police issued McCarthy an infraction for making an improper turn.

Church Hill Collision

About 6 pm July 13, motorist Michele Doyle, 38, of Bradley Lane, who was driving a 2002 Honda station wagon, was attempting to pull out of a driveway at 54 Church Hill Road in order to make a left turn onto that road, as motorist Deborah Reinher, 43, of Danbury was driving a 1997 Chrysler sedan eastward on Church Hill Road, police report.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Doyle received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

Truck Into Woods

Todd Adams, 27, of 26 Buttonball Drive was driving a commercial 1993 Kenworth T-450 dump truck, which was loaded with gravel and also hauling a flatbed trailer northward on Gelding Hill Road about 2:40 pm July 11, police said.

The truck then lost its brakes and was unable to stop while traveling downhill, police report.

The truck drove past a stop sign at the intersection of Gelding Hill Road, Lakeview Terrace, and Bennetts Bridge Road and went down an embankment into the woods, police said.

Adams received a bruised cheek in the mishap, police said. Police issued him a written warning for a stop sign violation and also required him to have a state inspection for the problem with the vehicle’s brakes.

Toddy Hill Collision

Police report a two-car accident on a rain-slicked Toddy Hill Road about 11:50 pm July 15.

Motorist Ryan Derrig, 18, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2003 Saab 9-3 sedan northward, rounded a curve on the wet road and then lost control of the auto, skidding into the path of a southbound 1991 Buick Park Avenue driven by Christopher Basso, 17, of 21 Taunton Lake Drive, police said. The two autos collided head-on in the southbound lane.

Basso and Buick passenger Mark Scheunemann, 16, of 21 Clearview Drive were transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Both Basso and Scheunemann were treated and released from the hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident. Police issued Derrig an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right.

Plate Missing

Police report that they stopped motorist Carlos Sousa, 34, of Danbury at the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84 about 12:15 pm July 16, because the vehicle that he was driving had no front marker plate.

After investigating, police charged Sousa with failure to display a front marker plate and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released Sousa on $100 bail for a July 31 court appearance.

Reckless Driving

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Anthony Mason, 22, of 50 Deep Brook Road turned himself in at the police station on the afternoon of July 17, and was charged with reckless driving in connection with a June 2 accident, police said.

In that early morning accident, Mason was driving a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck near 35 Mt Pleasant Road that went out of control and struck a utility pole and a tree and then rolled over. Mason and two passengers were then transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked for injuries.

Mason posted $500 bail on July 17 and was released for a July 31 court appearance.

Four MV Charges

Police said they saw motorist James Mack, 46, of Bridgeport driving a vehicle without a front marker plate on Wasserman Way about 5 pm July 18, so they stopped him to investigate.

The rear marker plate that was displayed on the vehicle did not belong on it, police said.

Police charged Mack with failure to display a front marker plate, misuse of a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance.

After processing, police released Mack on $200 bail for an August 1 court appearance to answer the charges.
