Jean G. McCann

Early SNAN member

Jean G. McCann, 84, of Newtown, died July 12 at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of Robert W. McCann. Mrs McCann was born January 19, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of Joseph D. and Marie (Bonner) Gengler.

She was a graduate of Marymount Academy in Tarrytown, N.Y. and attended National Park Junior College in Maryland.

She was active with Meals on Wheels and visited nursing homes with her registered therapy dogs. She had a true gift in dealing with animals, especially horses and dogs, and was also a gifted artist. She loved horseback riding and was an early member of SNAN of Newtown. She was a beloved mother and grandmother.

She leaves three sons, Robert W. McCann, Jr of Schevineus, N.Y., Lawrence B. McCann of Rochester, N.Y., and Kenneth G. McCann of Monroe; one daughter, Cynthia J. Mooney of Woodbury; and seven grandchildren. Her son, Brian Edward McCann, died in 1976.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering at the home of her son, Kenneth McCann, Mountainside Drive, Monroe, on Sunday, July 22, from noon to 4 pm. Arrangements are by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SNAN of Newtown, PO Box 352, Newtown CT 06470.
