Police Seek Impaired Drivers At Sobriety Checkpoint
In their continuing campaign to keep drugged drivers and drunken drivers off the roads, police plan to conduct another sobriety checkpoint this weekend.
Police plan to conduct the checkpoint on an unspecified section of local road on the night of Saturday, July 21, and early morning hours of Sunday, July 22, according to Sergeant Christopher Vanghele. Seven patrol officers and a sergeant will participate.
Each motorist passing in either direction past the well-lit checkpoint will be stopped and briefly interviewed to determine whether they are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, the sergeant said.
While stopped, motorists also will be checked for motor vehicle violations.
Three-quarters of the police overtime costs for the enforcement project will be covered by grant money.
Police plan to hold another sobriety checkpoint in August.
