Sable Stevens, NHS Class of 2005, received an associates degree in liberal arts ~ psychology from Dean College, Franklin, Mass.

Northeastern University, Boston, announced the following Newtown/Sandy Hook residents have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester: Brittany Boyle, Michael Cash, Rebecca Huot, Anna Janisch, Sarah King, Blaise LaPorta, Stephen Mancuso, Caitlyn McNerney, Elizabeth O’Connell, and Diana Rawson.

Tufts University, Medford, Mass., announces the following Newtown/Sandy Hook residents have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester: David Bunger and Michael Mangarella.

Bryant University, Smithfield, R.I., announces the following residents have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester: Matthew Meehan, Mark Laslo, and Thomas Wilson.

The University of Scranton, Scranton, Penn., announces the following residents have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester: Kelley Fitzgerald, Rebecca Pennucci, and Alexa Vacaro.

Jessica Gaddis, NHS Class of 2005, has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at the State University of New York at New Platz. Jessica is majoring in visual arts.

The University of Hartford announces the following Newtown residents have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester: Marc Bromley, Jesse D. Goodwick, and Jonathan C. Silver.

Victoria A. Filler, daughter of Mike and Joy Filler of Hundred Acres Road, is a recipient of the Dean’s Award for academic excellence during the spring semester at Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y.

Colin Curran, Kyle Shukie, and Jennifer Stephens have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Providence College, Providence, R.I.

Zachary Lyon, a junior majoring in marketing, has been named to the President’s List for the spring semester at Bentley College, Waltham, Mass.

Jacob S. Gotliboski, NHS Class of 2003, received a bachelor of science in criminal justice from the University of New Haven. Jacob was also named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester.

Rachel L. Stern, NHS Class of 2003, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine. Rachel, the daughter of Michael and Karen Stern, was a member of the debate team, Phi Beta Kappa, and Sigma Xi, the scientific research society, studied with the International Honors Program, and received the Drake R. Bradley Award in statistics.

Eric James O’Donnell, NHS Class of 2003, received a bachelor’s degree from Stonehill College, Easton, Mass.

Brendan T. Deveney has been named to the honor roll at Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass., for the spring term.

Louis B. Mahmood, NHS Class of 2001, received a master of arts in teaching from Clark University, Worcester, Mass.

Patrick Brennan has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Fairfield University. Patrick, a 2003 graduate of Fairfield Prep, is majoring in financial management.

Alex Snow, NHS Class of 2005, has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Western New England College, Springfield, Mass. Alex is an information technology major.

Peter L. Meisel, NHS Class of 2003, received a bachelor of science degree in biological chemistry from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine. Peter, son of Paul and Cheryl Meisel, played baseball, was a member of the Bates Scholar-Athlete Society, made Dean’s List four times, and received a faculty grant for scientific research in 2006.

Scott Shpunt, NHS Class of 2005, has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at the College of Engineering, Northeastern University, Boston.

Stacy Shpunt, NHS Class of 2005, has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at the Roy H. Park School of Communications, Ithaca College, Ithaca, N.Y.

Jenna A. Van Waalwijk, NHS Class of 2006, was named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Penn.

Joshua Tenenbaum, NHS Class of 2006, has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Bentley College, Waltham, Mass.

Nicholas Maurer, NHS Class of 2007, has been awarded a Friars Scholarship for the upcoming school year. Nicholas will attend St Bonaventure University, St Bonaventure, N.Y., this fall, majoring in marketing.

Kristen M. DeCesare has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Quinnipiac University, Hamden.

Elizabeth R. LaPerch, daughter of Lucille and Michael LaPerch, Sr, graduated from Lauralton Hall, Milford. She will attend John Carroll University, Cleveland, Ohio, this fall. Elizabeth received the American Values Scholarship, John Carroll University Award, and the Catholic War Veterans Scholarship, Danbury Post 1042.

Andrea Szabo, NHS Class of 2005, has been named to the Dean’s Honors List for the fall semester at Franklin Pierce College, Rindge, N.H.

Elizabeth Upshur, daughter of Carol Upshur and Arthur Upshur, received a bachelor of arts degree with honors from American School in Paris, Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Penn. Elizabeth majored in economics, minored in political science. She was a member of the college orchestra, wind ensemble; and on the staff of WSRN, the college radio station.

Rasul Hafizov graduated from The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor. Rasul was on the honor roll and a National Merit Commended student, was on JV and Varsity track teams, and played alto saxophone in the Jazz Ensemble. He will attend Connecticut College in the fall.

Joshua Muniz, of Newtown, and Timothy Kutt, of Sandy Hook, have been named to Dean’s List for the spring term at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford.

Jennifer A. Murphy, NHS Class of 2003, received a bachelor of arts degree in economics with a concentration in financial markets from Colby College, Waterville, Maine. Jennifer, daughter of Henry and Mary Murphy of Hillsboro, Fla., received honors for Dean’s List, Distinction in major, and graduated magna cum laude.

Monica Arienzo, a junior environmental science major, has been named to Honors List at Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Penn.

Elizabeth Cole, daughter of Jerry and Sheila Cole of Newtown, has been named to the Dean’s List at Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Penn. Elizabeth graduated from Ellis Clark Vo-Ag Program at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury in 2006.

Monica Latowicki, daughter of Dr Daniel Latowicki and Kitty Latowicki of Newtown, has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.

The National Honor Roll, Lynbrook, N.Y., announced the following Newtown/Sandy Hook students have been inducted into the 2006–2007 National Honor Roll: Chuck Brooks, Jessica Collins, Brian Kirk, Brian Murphy, and Danielle Pierce.

Curry College, Milton, Mass., announced the following local residents have been named to the College Dean’s List for the spring semester: Jacqueline Ann Talamo of Newtown and Alexander E. Rote of Sandy Hook.

Lauren Parrish, daughter of Anne and Arthur Parrish, received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in performing arts from Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, N.Y. Lauren, NHS Class or 2003 plans to pursue lighting design.

Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, announced the following Newtown/Sandy Hook residents have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester: Elizabeth Belmont, Amanda Buchholz, Robin Collins, Jesse Minalgo, Janine Pixley, Angela Viesto, and Christina Wolf.

Stephen Giacolone, son of Robert and Laurel Giacolone of Newtown, has earned honors for the spring semester at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Stephen is a member of NHS Class of 2005.

Tara Ryan, daughter of Jack and Patricia Ryab of Sandy Hook, has earned honors at for the spring semester at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Tara is a member of NHS Class of 2005.

Daniel Fielding Maxwell, NHS Class of 2002, received a master of arts degree in public communications from the Department of Communication and Media Studies at Fordham University, Bronx, N.Y. Daniel, son of Thomas and Nancy Maxwell, did his undergraduate work at Bates College and the University of Connecticut, Class of 2005.

Dr Joseph P. Smith, son of Earl and Vera Smith of Newtown, received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from University of Massachusetts, Boston. Dr Smith was the recipient of the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Environmental, Earth and Ocean Sciences. He worked as a graduate teaching assistant, managed the department’s Low-Level Radioisotope Counting Facility and was instrumental in the development of the new Biogeochemical Processes and Forensics Lab. He used radioisotopes to identify the geochemical “fingerprint” of the ash generated from 9/11 attack and its impact on the quantity and quality of sediments accumulating in the lower Hudson River estuary.
