The Newtown Hawks 14-and-under All Stars qualified for the New England Regional tournament over a week ago and now the 10-and-under All Stars will be joining them after finishing second last weekend in Milford in the Connecticut Babe Ruth Softball state tournament.
The 14s will be heading to Stamford next weekend while the 10s will be heading to Lancaster, New Hampshire.

With three wins in the Connecticut Babe Ruth Softball state tournament the Newtown Hawks 10-and-under All Star team finished second and qualified for a spot in the New England Regionals in Lancaster, New Hampshire.
The locals played five games over the weekend in the sweltering heat in Milford, losing their opening game to Brookfield but coming back to beat Norwalk, Milford and New Canaan to earn a re-match with Brookfield in the tournament final.
But hot and tired, the Hawks succumbed to Brookfield yet still earned a trip to New Hampshire.
In the opening round 8-4 loss to Brookfield, Maggie Kennedy was on base four times and was stellar on the mound as she earned the game MVP award. From the lead-off spot, Taylor Brady scored three times as Jessica Gibbons had two hits and four RBI.
In a 10-0 five-inning win over Norwalk, Alexa Powell twirled a gem and earned the game MVP award by striking out 10 batters. Both Natalie Galante and Kelly Brassard had two hits, an RBI and run scored.
In a 9-4 win over Milford, Brady â aka âLittle Jeterâ â was outstanding at shortstop, making numerous highlight reel plays to earn the game MVP award. Abi Kuligowski powered the offense, reaching base three times as Sheila Smith banged out two hits.
In an 11-3 win over New Canaan, the Hawks were led by game MVP Monica Macchiarulo, who pounded out three hits ⦠including a monster double. Galante also had three hits and three RBI. Smith made two sparkling grabs of foul popups behind the dish to snuff out rallies.
In the 14-4 loss to Brookfield in the tournament final, Macchiarulo, Kelly OâSullivan and Karlie Kuligowski all played well.
The Regionals open next Friday, July 28, and are expected to run through Sunday, July 30, barring inclement weather.

In two games last week, it was all about pitching for the Newtown Hawks 12-and-under All Star team.
Sure, the Hawks scored a total of 41 runs in victories over Southbury and Ridgefield, but at the same time Colleen Cunningham, Erin Begg and Emma Herring combined on a no-hitter in the win over Southbury while Cunningham and Ashley Cirone combined on a two-hitter in the win over the Rebels of Ridgefield.
In a 16-1 win over Southbury, Ali Kennedy, Madison Hauck, Natalie Dunn, Megan Gibbons, Begg and Cunningham all scored twice and each had multiple hits. Taylor Johnson, Kendall Svanda, and Hannah Koch all played well defensively for the Hawks.
In a 25-4 win over Ridgefield, the Hawks scored all 25 runs in the first three innings as Begg and Gibbons each had two hits while Jessica Jowdy, Dunn and Cunningham each scored three times. Hauck, Rachel Camejo, and Kate Siroky played well defensively.

The Newtown Hawks 14-and-under All Star team starting tuning up for the New England Regionals and the U14 Nationals with three easy wins â two coming against Southington (11-0 and 11-6) and one coming against the New Milford Jades (8-1).
In the shutout of Southington, Kate Bowen fired a one-hitter and struck out eight. Ally Modzelewski and Kaitlin Marsden (double) each ripped two hits while Emily Krewson and Rachael Ruiz singled. Caitlin Cosgrove doubled while Alex Caracciolo walked and scored a run for the Hawks. Ashley Kuligowski caught a great game behind the plate.
In the second win over Southington, Modzelewski went the distance for Newtown as she stuck out five. Marley Koschel and Modzelewski banged out three hits apiece while Laura Newberry and Rachael Ruiz each smacked two. Christine Beck added a single for the Hawks.
In the win over the Jades, Koschel and Bowen (double) each belted two hits to pace the offense. Cosgrove stroked a long double while Nicole Elias singled to lead off a huge inning for Newtown. Bowen pitched well and picked up the win for Newtown.
