A Great Day For Ice Cream
A Great Day For Ice Cream
To the Editor:
I screamâ¦you screamâ¦we all had our ice cream! What a great day! The ice cream social was the largest attended TRIAD event to date! Not only were over 200 local seniors treated to a variety of flavors of ice cream, complete with every topping that one could imagine, but they were also educated on important safety issues and services available to seniors. Each senior left the senior center satisfying their sweet tooth and carrying a âgoodie bagâ loaded with information and safety items.
This year the TRIAD introduced the Glow Stick to our seniors. If the electricity should fail in the home, the Glow Stick when activated gives off light for up to 12 hours! No more dangerous lighting of candles! A special thanks goes out to the Commission on Aging who made available these lights to all our seniors in attendance for free!
On behalf of the SALT committee members, we would like to thank all those who made the third annual TRIAD celebration of July 13 once again the âstanding room onlyâ success it was!
We would especially like to thank Governor Jodi Rell for sending a proclamation of support for our safety prevention programs; to Chief of Police Michael Kehoe and Captain Jose Rios, for attending and showing that the Newtown Police Department is truly committed to the safety needs of our senior community; and to our TRIAD business partner Peopleâs Bank for its never-ending support of the senior citizens of Connecticut.
We would also like to especially thank Lockwood Lodge of Newtown who donated all the ice cream and toppings for our celebration and Home Instead of Newtown for donating a wonderful basket filled with âgoodiesâ for our free raffle!
Without the support of First Selectman Rosenthal, Police Chief Kehoe, the business community, and of course the seniors here in town, our Newtown TRIAD would not have thrived for the last three years! With this continued support we look forward to a great future for the betterment of the seniors and the community Newtown.
A sincere thank you from the Newtown TRIAD Co-Chairpersons,
