Democratic Town Committee Golf Outing
The third annual Newtown Democratic Town Committee golf outing will be held Tuesday, September 6, at 1 pm, at Richter Park Golf Course in Danbury. The tournament will be a scramble format and $150 fee includes golf, cart, on course snacks and drinks, awards dinner, prizes, raffles and longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one contests. Newtown Junior Women Golf Tournament
The third annual Newtown Junior Women Golf Tournament will be held Monday, August 22, at Whitney Farms Golf Course in Monroe. Tee time is slated for 9 am with registration at 7:30 am. Fee is $150 and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, continental breakfast, buffet lunch, and snacks and beverages on the course. There will be low net and low gross team prizes as well as longest drive, closest to the pin, and five hole-in-one prizes sponsored by Bridgeport Harley Davidson. Tournament proceeds will be used for community projects such as the Back-To-School Backpack program and the Tag-A-Gift program.

Summer Youth Track
A summer youth track and field series will be held on Wednesdays in July at the Bethel High School track. Registration will be at 6:30 pm each night with races to begin at 7 pm. Open to anyone three years of age up to eighth grade. Events will include 50-, 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes as well as the 800-meter and 1,600-meter (one mile) runs. The one-mile run is open to all comers at every meet. Cost is $2 per night. Ribbons to all runners. Field event clinics will follow the one-mile runs. Call meet director Yvonne Grimes at 270-7974.
Soccer Training Camp â Just For Girls!
The Northwest District and the London Gryphons of the USL W-League will host a training camp just for girls with a focus on the unique needs and physiology of the female athlete in mind. Several Gryphon players will be on hand August 8-12 at Meadowview Park in Middlebury for the camp. Session I meets from 1 to 4 pm while Session II meets from 5 to 8 pm. AYF Registrations
Newtown American Youth Football and Cheer (formerly Newtown Pop Warner) is still accepting registration for the upcoming season. Boys and girls ages 7 through 14 (age as of July 31, 2005) up to grade eight are eligible to participate. Registration fee is $225 for football and $155 for cheerleading. Warrior Lacrosse Camp
The Warrior Lacrosse Camp will run July 25-28 at Western Connecticut State University under the direction of Rick McCarthy, WCSU head coach. The camp is for players ages 8 to 18. All ability levels are welcome (players will be grouped accordingly). The camp will be held at the turf field of the Westside Athletic Complex.
