With four more wins, Newtown Exxon has maintained its hold on first place in the Weeknite Slo-Pitch Softball League.

Exxon defeated Kelloggs Hardwood (11-4), the BlindsGuys (21-4), 100 Church Hill (17-9) and Kelloggs Hardwood again (9-7) to improve to 11-1 and hold a two-game lead over My Place Pizza, which nailed down three wins of its own and improved to 8-2.

The action –

John S. scored a pair of runs as Crosshill defeated Americam, 7-2, with John P. banging out a pair of hits for Americam. Cross Hill also clubbed the BlindGuys, 15-8, as Arron L. collected three hits and three runs to offset a 4-for-4 performance by Frank T.

100 Church Hill clobbered the BlindGuys, 21-3, as Rob Frangione went 5-for-5 while M. Lynch, G. Herring and B. Kennedy collected four hits apiece. For the ‘Guys, Bob K. was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Meanwhile, My Place defeated SMC, 9-5, as Jim Sullivan and Tim March belted home runs to offset a 2-for-2 performance by Tom Villa.

SMC slipped past Fireside Inn, 12-11, as Tee O’Grady went 4-for-4 while J. O’Grady and D. Kingsley collected three hits apiece. For Fireside, Tim Powell went 4-for-4 with a homer. Meanwhile, Exxon belted Kelloggs, 11-4, as D. Amaral and Fred Kasbarian banged out three hits apiece. Jim Pope had three hits for Kelloggs.

Fireside Inn exploded for 25 runs in a 25-7 win over Cross Hill as Jim D’Angelo, B. Fulton and D. Damore had three hits apiece. My Place defeated 100 Church Hill, 11-8, despite a two-hit effort from Church Hill’s M. Casey.

SMC slipped past Kelloggs, 10-8, as Larry Miller went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and M. Kirk went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. Exxon defeated the BlindsGuys, 21-4, as Chris Daly went 4-for-5 and S. Powell went 4-for-4. Keith R. and Ed L. had two hits each for the ‘Guys.

Exxon defeated 100 Church Hill, 17-9, as Tom Birch and Jim Tolster collected three hits apiece. J. Romeo had two hits for Church Hill. Meanwhile, Tim March went 4-for-4 and R. Treadwell had three hits to lead My Place to a 16-4 win over Cross Hill, which was led by a three-hit effort by Billy R.

SMC nipped Cross Hill, 15-14, as Brian Maciolek and D. Marcinik each went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. John D. went 3-for-4 with a homer for ‘Hill. Meanwhile, Exxon slipped past Kelloggs, 9-7, as Fred Kasbarian had three hits and three runs scored and Jim Tolster went 4-for-4. Dom L. went 3-for-4 for Kelloggs.

Sunday Slo-Pitch

Southbury Printing swept a doubleheader against previously undefeated Hurd Construction to take over first place in the Sunday Slo-Pitch Softball League.

Chris Arnold led the Southbury attack in the first game with four hits while Zipper, Paisano and Smitty added four hits a piece in the 15-6 victory. In the second game, Giroux and Zipper led Southbury to a 5-4 win to complete the sweep giving the squad a 6-1 first place record.

Women’s Slo-Pitch

Peg Bowers went 4-for-4 and drove in seven runs to lead Sandy Hook Wine & Liquor to a 17-2 win over Chartwells in Women’s Slo-Pitch Softball League action. Lou Maute went 3-for-4, Michele Schettino went 3-for-5, and Jodee Maciolek pitched well.

For Chartwells, Kim Burns hit well and Debi Modzelewski played well at shortstop. 

Meanwhile, Beeline Woodworking defeated Curtiss & Crandon, 10-4, as Cindy Palkimas played well in the field and hit the ball hard.

Maryann Fisher and Ellen Goyda had solid performances.
