GALLERY PAULE ANGLIM ALA EBTEKAR
ak/gs set 7/24 #707301
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. â Gallery Paule Anglim announces an exhibition of new works by Ala Ebtekar, who will show several new large-scale mixed media paintings, complemented by new graphite on paper drawings. The artist blends styles of traditional Persian miniature painting with contemporary Pop culture and contemporary Iranian coffee house-style illustration.
Ebtekarâs new paintings feature manuscript pages from prayer books and religious texts the artist found in Tehran. The artists paints a colorful layer of figurative imagery in acrylic and ink over the traditional back and white Farsi script mounted on the stretched canvas.
Born in the United States to Iranian parents, Ebtekar was raised in both Iran and the United States. He received his BA from the San Francisco Art Institute and his MFA from Stanford.
His work is featured in the traveling exhibition âOne Way or Another: Asian American Art Now,â organized by the Asia Society, which will open at the Berkeley Art Museum in September.
The gallery is at 14 Geary Street. For information, www.gallerypauleanglim.com or 415-433-2710.
