Plan And Prepare For Tomorrow
Plan And Prepare For Tomorrow
To the Editor:
I read with much interest and appreciation the letter from Eileen Fish published in the Letter Hive of July 16 [âCounting On Each Otherâ]. I do not know if Ms Fish directed her comments locally but regardless, I think they apply. We certainly are not âunitedâ in Newtown. Further, the level of rancor and combativeness directed toward some town leaders seems ever-present. That climate certainly inhibits any movement toward cooperation. And, it unquestionably has a chilling effect on the willingness of others to venture forth into leadership roles, political or otherwise.
We will not be able to address the issues and challenges that lie ahead without respectful collaboration. We should be mindful of the mistakes of the past and commit not to repeat them. We should know that some of the loudest critics may be driven by a personal agenda. And, finally we should fully recognize that most leaders have served us well with nothing but the common good in mind. Letâs move on, Newtown. Work together to plan and prepare for a better tomorrow.
