Special Features At July 28 Farmers’ Market

The weekly Sandy Hook Organic Farmers’ Market, back at its location of previous years behind St John’s Episcopal Church on Washington Avenue, is hosting some new attractions at the Tuesday, July 28 market, held from 2 to 6 pm.

Musical husband and wife duo Peter and Julie Riccio of the Sawtelles, who bill themselves as a “nerve rock” band, will provide “Intricately arranged pop that is as lush as it is threadbare” according to Julie Riccio.

Enjoy the indie music while selecting from the array of local items, including produce, fresh cut flowers, artisan breads, handcrafted olive oils, crafts, and all natural salad dressings. While mom and dad are picking out the freshest produce, kids can enjoy a special area of fun crafts and prizes.

Also premiering the week of July 28, are pizzas from the Farm to Hearth Pizza Kitchen out of Litchfield, featuring handmade artisan pizzas such as an intriguing potato and lavender combination. The pizzas utilize locally grown produce.

Members of the Connecticut Etsy chapter of artisans will be on hand, as well, July 28, for a special craft week. Etsy is an artistic community of members sharing skills, networking, and promoting each other’s creations. Connecticut members have taken part in the Sandy Hook Organic Farmers’ Market in other years and have been well-received by customers.

Farmers’ Market organizer Mary Fellows is excited, she said, by the number of vendors and special activities being presented this year at the market.
